Have you ever wondered if you could actually make money on the internet? Do you feel that you lack the technical skills needed for internet marketing? I am a baby boomer who has recently become an internet marketer and I love it! Here are 5 things that I have learned which may help you too.
1. Find a good system and stick with it
I am embarrassed to admit that I spent almost a whole year going from 1 opportunity to another. I was afflicted with “shiny object syndrome” and was always looking for the next piece of magic software or the latest and greatest technique. Internet marketers loved me! I knew better, but somehow that didn’t stop me until I made a quality decision to stop being an opportunity seeker and become an internet marketer.
How did I do it? Each day, when I open up my email, I go through it and delete all offers (and there are tons of them) of the hot new thing WITHOUT READING THEM! This enables me to focus on the system which I have chosen without being distracted.
2. Tech support is your best friend
I would say that my tech skills are at the intermediate level, but when I started building websites and marketing on the internet, I felt like a total newbie! Many times, it would have been easy to give up in frustration. That’s when I learned to rely on tech support. Of course, the system you use, must have a great tech support department.
In the beginning, I didn’t even know how to describe what I was trying to do, but tech support patiently asked questions until they were able to solve my problems. Don’t be afraid to contact them because you don’t know what to say. They deal with newbies all of the time and know how to ask the right questions.
3. Earn as you learn
Find a system that allows you to earn as you learn. A good system may cost you $100-$300 per month. You want to be making some income as you learn, to offset those monthly charges. Treat this as a business and be willing to pay for a good system. I can’t think of another business that you can start with a couple of hundred dollars.
4. It’s all about the marketing
You may have the coolest, most beautiful website in the world, but if you don’t market it, nobody is going to see it. Be sure that your system includes marketing training and lots of it. Be prepared to spend a minimum of 1 hour a day marketing your site. Even if you work 10 hours a day at your job, you can find an hour for internet marketing. How badly do you want this?
5. Expect obstacles and persevere
Anything that is worth having requires some personal growth. Salespeople have to learn how to talk to customers. Mechanics have to learn how to fix cars. Internet marketers need to learn technical and marketing skills in order to succeed. Whenever we learn a new skill, we can expect some frustration. It may seem as if you are getting nowhere but remember that we learn from our failures as much as from our successes. Stick with it and you will find yourself the owner of a successful internet marketing business. Good luck!
