There are high-tech CCTV cameras on every corner and police response in the area is about 60 seconds. But that’s the CBD. Travel 10-20 kilometers outside of Johannesburg city-center and it’s another story. There are no cameras and much slower police response times. And the thieves know it.
If you stay in the outer parts of Johannesburg like Randburg, Sandton and especially in the East Rand, you need to make sure you’ve got insurance. The last thing you need to do is leave your car somewhere and come back to find it’s not there any more AND you now have to pay for a car that you don’t get to use! Despite the trauma of losing your car and whatever was in it, I assure you the financial burden of paying for 2 cars – one which is by now over the border – will be large.
Johannesburg has been listed as one of the cities with the highest crime rates for a long while. Add to that the many “awards” our reckless drivers have received and our well-known highveld thunderstorms and you QUICKLY begin to see why insurance is so important here!
You also need to keep in mind that Johannesburg thieves are breaking into houses. It’s bad enough if it happens to you. Your fortress, your home, your castle, your safe haven, has been broken into. That on it’s own is traumatic. Adding onto that having to replace every major appliance and item of value in your house and you have a recipe for extreme, drawn-out trauma.
You see, if someone takes your stuff but you have insurance and can quickly replace it, you can go on dealing with the emotional and mental problems that an event like that brings on. If you don’t have insurance, you’ve now got to deal with the intrusion into your life AND the financial setback of having to replace everything that was taken.
Insurance + Johannesburg just go together. You’ve also got reckless car drivers & thunder storms to worry about. Again, you’re problems are great enough with the trauma of the event itself. Adding to that the cost of replacing your car or your household goods yourself and you’ve got 5-10 years of pain lingering on.
