You have decided to follow the multiple streams of income strategy for you home business. You want to add affiliate marketing as one of those streams of income. What you do not want is distractions and frustration from unfamiliar details. It is important that you need to be comfortable with the details of Clickbank, the most popular source of digital products for affiliate marketing. I am going to assume that you have registered with Clickbank and now have a nickname and a password.
It is important that you understand how and when you will receive payment from Clickbank. You must go to the Legal and Policies page. Go to Clickbank home page. Click on the Legal and Policies link in the navigation bar at the bottom of the page. Click the accounting link in the body of the page.
Refer to the payment threshold section. Please note that the payment threshold is set by you at your “my account page”. Please note that you will be charged $2.50 for every check issued. Checks are issued twice per month. Checks are mailed 15 days after the check amount is fixed on the 1st and 16th of every month. OK, there is a service charge of $2.50 per check. If you have made a sale then you get a check in a couple of weeks right? Scroll down on the same legal and policies page to near the bottom. Clickbank requires a Tax ID. This also is submitted on the My Account page. There is one last potentially frustrating detail. At the bottom of this same page, there is a item titled Customer Distribution Requirement. Your account balance will be held by Clickbank until you have made standing sales with 5 or more different credit cards. There must be at least one Visa and one MasterCard. PayPal transactions do not count.
In summary:
your sales transactions involved 5 different Visa or MasterCards
you have made at least 5 sales which have not been refunded
you have submitted a tax ID to Clickbank
your commission balance exceeds your payment threshold.
This may seem like a large pain is the… But most of it is to ensure that Clickbank will not be left holding the proverbial bag. Also it prevents someone from just using their Clickbank account to buy at wholesale rates. At least it makes it difficult. Take care of the details and know what to expect. Then you can focus on marketing and building a large check from Clickbank.
Here is a rant on the perception of marketing by the general public. Too many people begrudge the salesman his commission. You pay the same amount from either an affiliate link or a merchant link. When you chose to buy a product, clear the cookies on your computer. Then use the link from the marketing identity which interested you in the product. Pay the marketer for marketing. Maybe I am just naive, but remember, what goes around, comes around.
