Mobile phone marketing how relevant will this be in near future?
Very valid question and one I hope to answer in this article.
Mobile marketing is growing at a rapid rate and something that could pay big dividends for the people that get in front of this next wave of opportunity.
Let me ask you can you name someone who doesn’t own a cellphone not many huh? I even see seniors using them all the time.
Mobile phones are gradually becoming more and more like computers everyday with improved web browsers and better technology we are becoming accustomed to doing more and more on them every day.
But still why should we consider learning more about mobile phone marketing?
Well let’s have a brief overview of the computer and in all fairness that’s what cellphones are becoming.
First was the mainframe a computer big enough to fill up a whole room but was the beginning of a revolution.
Then with the invention of microchips and some innovations we have the desktop and now we are high tech!
A few years later there is a buzz about something called a laptop in the computer world a smaller version of our desktop…… what will they think of next?
Well not long after this we have something called a netbook and it seems in the computer world smaller is better.
Maybe not necessarily smaller but more convenient and relevant in our day to day lives.
I personally own an Android and take full advantage of being able to stay connected to the web particularly social media sites and checking email on the go.
How much longer will it be I wonder when even laptops and netbooks will take second place for even the most die hard marketer who conducts his or business online.
So how does mobile marketing fit in to all this. Well looks look at the stats.
The latest estimate on cellphone owners globally is approximately 5 billion.
While laptop and desktop owners is around the 2 billion mark.
In the United States over 250 million people own mobile phones that’s about 80% of the population.
The global mobile market will be valued at over $16 billion sometime this year.
YouTube is even cashing in on the mobile phone marketing trend. Since there has been a tremendous increase in people accessing their site via mobile phone they will now take advantage of this by having ads that can be viewed and clicked on via a mobile phone.
These are some interesting statistics on mobile phone marketing so what does this mean for the internet marketer?
Well as mobile phone marketing continues to grow this means that more people will access the web via a mobile device than they will on laptops and desktops.
Your offers and websites will need to be able to be viewed and interacted on with a mobile device.
Try this little test. Use your mobile phone to access the web and view one of your websites. What do you think can you see it clearly and how are you able to navigate it?
Probably not that great? I think in the future we are going to need to have some knowledge of mobile phone marketing to stay competitive.
Why? Because we are either going to have to learn how to create mobile optimized websites and squeeze pages or at least be aware that we need to know someone who can.
That might be a whole new niche to look at.
I know WordPress already has plug ins to make our blogs mobile friendly and to help with mobile phone marketing but I have to honest use these at your own caution.
I had problems with my site after I tried to install one but that’s another article.
Even so as marketers I think we need to start learning all we can about mobile phone marketing and be prepared even if the plugins now available are causing us grief.
I think the money to be made in mobile phone marketing will be in having the ability to create mobile optimized squeeze pages and websites and knowing how to make our blogs more mobile friendly.
