I had an interesting conversation with a dear friend of mine, explaining to him how he could easily capitalize in his industry by incorporating some of the strategies I teach on IMC. He wanted to know how it was possible for people to set up a free website and make money from it. This reminded me of the awesome power of affiliate marketing. There are other ways to make money off of websites such as freelance work or directly selling your business’s products. However, affiliate marketing may be one of the easiest and inexpensive methods of generating income online.
With affiliate marketing, you must start off on the right foot. That means you will need to do a little research and make a few preparations instead of just diving in head first. I have put together 5 essential steps or things that you will need to find before launching your new affiliate marketing site.
1. Find your products: Who are you affiliating with? There are many great companies out there that will let you join for free like Commission Junction, ClickBank and AffiliateBot.
2. Find your niche market: This doesn’t mean choose broad demographics like teenagers. Try teenagers who like Harry Potter, or even better, teenagers who like Harry Potter collectibles
3. Find your keywords: Now that you have your niche, this should help you target your audience better using keywords that attract your market. (harry potter collectibles, teen gift ideas, harry potter figurines, etc.).
4. Find some diversity: You can join several affiliates to offer more products that are relevant to your target audience. This may also include separating your site and products apart from your competitors by offering reviews, comparisons, promotions or other ideas to keep your site fresh and content up to date.
5. Find the money: Using market research tools like Google Analytics is a great way to identify where all your advertising and marketing efforts are paying off. Further optimize your site to target an audience with high conversion rates or try new strategies, follow the money.
Stick to these guidelines and you can be successful at affiliate marketing too. Remember, this is one of several ways to earn passive income, key word is earn. With a little dedication and patience, your audience will grow and begin trusting you as their source of knowledge when it comes to making purchases on the products you are advertising.
