There are two keys to building a strong and full email list, though this email marketing article will only focus on one of them… First, you need to have a squeeze page that has a high conversion rate. Next, you need to drive as much qualified traffic to that squeeze page as possible. The more traffic you send to your converting squeeze page, the more conversions you will make, the more email addresses you will accumulate for your email marketing lists, the larger your opt in email marketing list grows. There are a lot of ways to send qualified traffic to your site for email marketing, but right now I want to talk about one of the more traditional (but still powerful) methods of building qualified traffic- forum marketing.
Essentially, forum marketing is a simple process. All you do is first find forums that are related to your niche. It’s important that you only find sites that are as laser focused to your niche as possible, because forums tend to be pretty territorial places and you won’t be too popular if you market yourself in a niche forum that has nothing to do with what you are selling. That’s a quick way to get tarred, feathered and banned. So the first step is to find those forums that are related to what you are selling.
Next, you want to register for those forums and become a member of them. Once you are registered, you’re going to become a productive member of the forum who regularly contributes valuable information to the other people in the forum. You don’t want to join a forum and right off the bat start selling your product. You don’t want to join and then create a thread about what you’re selling or telling people to join your email marketing lists or anything like that. Instead you want to respond to other people’s posts, you want to create threads that are of interest to you, and by all appearances you want to look like just another person who joined this forum because you are a member of the community.
This shouldn’t be too hard, because if you are selling a product that you made yourself or have some personal interest in, then you should already have plenty to say about the topic. You probably should have a personal interest in the threads and posts and comments in this forum, so it should be pretty easy and fun to talk to people there about something other than your email marketing.
Now, you aren’t going to sell your product or send people to your squeeze page directly. Instead, you are just going to have a link in your signature that points to your squeeze page for your opt in email marketing. Feel free to include a small call to action before it in your signature, but don’t sell too hard. Forums are social places, and they don’t really appreciate people who are just on there to sell. If you only take one thing away from this email marketing article, I hope it’s that- don’t sell directly on forums!
