Another big affiliate program is Amazon. Amazon started life by selling books and are now one of the biggest book retailers in the world. They have also branched out into just about every other retail category that you can think of. You can buy the latest electronic products or a garden shed through Amazon. They are one of the major sources of products when you start out in affiliate marketing.
There are also affiliate networks like Commission Junction and Affiliate Future (and many more) where you can have access to many more affiliate products from the likes of airlines, holiday companies and retail stores. It does not cost you anything to join one of these affiliate networks, and again, they look after the record keeping and send you the commission.
If you build your own website you will have more flexibility in what you can sell in affiliate marketing. You need to work in a niche (targeted) market, then you can show products from Amazon, ClickBank or an affiliate network that relate to that niche market. For example, if your niche market is Australia, you will find books from Amazon about Australia, airline fares from an affiliate network, or even an eBook about living and working in Australia from ClickBank.
You can develop a number of websites to reflect different niche markets. You can sell products or services that you are passionate about, or simply check out those products or services which are popular and work with those. There are a number of skills you will need to develop to be successful in affiliate marketing, but you can learn these as you go along.
You will need an understanding of sales pages, keywords and how search engines like Google, work. It is important to make a start and tweak things as you go along. Instead of “ready, aim, fire”, adopt a policy of “ready, fire, aim”. This will help you to overcome procrastination and get your business started.
Affiliate marketing allows some people to earn big incomes and that may be something you can aspire to. But many of the successful marketers have started out small on a part-time basis and built up their businesses gradually. Start out with some achievable goals.
