Local hotel owners are investing in dreams every day with little or no knowledge about what will be the hotel marketing fuel moving the business forward onto a success they have been dreaming of.

Common knowledge is to create brochures, doing advertising and making deals with travel agents not realizing that 25% of the revenue will be paid in commissions. This is hard work and lots of extra money spent not even knowing if it brings the hotel any kind of returns.

If you ask an average hotel owner why they do hotel marketing in this way, you most likely get the answer, because everyone else is doing it.

Many hotels put all their hopes into the local tourism authority that promised to promote the area and bring visitors from all over the world to the town and region. Most likely they will wait, wish and hope for an outcome that never will show up.

This behavior is very common and the hotel owner usually ends up deciding to cut down on room rates, increasing advertising to get the word out to attract a few more visitors to be able to pay the overheads for the month. This continues until they find out that their business is slowly dying.

This is the time the hotel owner starts working even harder to cut down on staff members and any other advertising they previously did to be able to save their face and pride in front of other people together with the dream they have been living for all this years.

Now their hotel is like an expensive Toyota land cruiser, they paid a fortune to buy but can’t afford to put gasoline in the tank to make it move.

It is common knowledge that you need a website if you have a business. Unfortunately many websites are never updated having the same old information that originally was put in there 5 years ago, attracting little to no customers. Most websites can never be found unless you know the name of the business.

A website is like a poster on the internet, hang your poster in your back yard and nobody will find it.

The day the hotel owner realize that the yellow pages and newspaper advertising doesn’t work anymore and paying 25% commissions to travel agents will slowly kill the business, they will be in a new light and finally see what does work. Internet marketing for the hotel using SEO (Search Engine Optimization) will suddenly be an attractive option to reach the world and attract new customers.

Until Now they couldn’t be found online.

The Power of The Internet

When knowing that 80% of all people do their research for any product and service online before buying. One Billion People are active on Facebook for at least 40 minutes every second day telling their friends about their experiences and recommending products and services they are happy with.

When they realize that there are a huge amount of people looking for their hotel they will be desperate to know how they can tap into the market.

It is much easier than they think. The only resistance is the hotel owner!

Because they haven’t fully realized the power of the internet they still do the same old hotel marketing that never works.

It’s time to wake up!

To realize that we are living in a new age and what worked 10 or even 5 years ago doesn’t work today.

Knowing that you need a website is not enough. The understanding of marketing your website in a professional way is needed to make it work, letting 1000s of new customers finally find you.

Don’t run away to your web-designer asking for help. Web-design is a totally different game and very few web-designers do marketing for websites. If they did they wouldn’t have any time left for web-design.

SEO marketing has to do with keyword research and optimizing the website for target words, article writing, article submission, press release writing, press releases, social media bookmarking, social media integration, directory submissions, search engine submissions etc.

If your web-designer is doing all these things on a monthly basis, then he/she knows what they are talking about.

This is not rocket science but very time-consuming.

This is not an overnight solution. You have to stick with it for a few months but when the work is done it usually stays for a long time unless someone is more aggressive with the marketing then you are.
