Just about any internet marketer will have visited an internet marketing forum at one time or another. As a matter of fact, most marketers will visit one or two forums regularly. And I advise any new marketer to do the same. You know how the saying goes; birds of a feather flock together. If you want to be a successful marketer, it’s important to surround yourself with people who already are successful or who have the same dreams and beliefs.
Reading about other people’s successes can really boost your motivation. Especially when you’re surrounded by nay-sayers offline, who don’t understand what you’re trying to achieve, don’t believe in it and even ridicule you (been there, done that, moved on).
Other members of an internet marketing forum can help you over the hurdles you’ll no doubt encounter along the way. They can give you specific advice to a certain issue you’re struggling with. Or they can lift your spirits when you’re feeling a bit down and don’t know which step to take next.
That said, visiting an internet marketing forum can harbor a few pitfalls as well.
It’s easy to lose track of time, browsing different posts. Especially when you’re new to the whole online marketing business. It’s okay to get a little lost the first time you visit the forum; you’ll need to get a feel of it, of the users, and figure out if it’s the right place for you. However, after that initial visit, you should really consider using a timer. Set to 1 hour each day. After that hour is up, it’s time for you to take action and stop browsing.
Another pitfall you may encounter in an internet marketing forum, is knowing whose advice to trust and follow. A lot of members create a lot of posts and go in to head on arguments with other marketers, which makes it look as if they know what they’re talking about. While in reality, they may not even have made $10 online. All they have is theory to base their arguments on. Admittedly, they may have a few good points, but don’t follow everything these members say blindly.
Good members to follow, are the ones who help you think for yourself. Or the ones who will give you step by step details on how they do certain tasks.
But the biggest pitfall of all, is losing money in an internet marketing forum. Let’s face it, the best place to market and sell make money online products is in an internet marketing related forum. Which is what loads of members do; promote products to other products. Personally, I don’t have a problem with that as long as the promoting is limited to the members signature and/or a special threat where you can recommend products. That way the difference between good and honest advise and a covert sales pitch is clear for everyone, especially the new members.
