The definition of “Affiliate Marketing” is simply the use of a website and/or blog for the purposes of marketing. In other words it is the use of a central website to market the products and/or services of other sites.
I thank you for joining me today and would love to share the information that I have learned thus far by being an affiliate. While affiliate marketing has become a very popular method of online marketing for literally thousands, and even millions of websites. Here is the basic concept of how it works:
It works by having “an associate” (that would be you and/or me) create links that point back to the merchant’s web site. The merchant (i.e. Target.com, Cabelas.com, Christianbook.com and thousands more) will pay the affiliate web site owner (you) a small fee every time that a web user (your visitor) clicks on the link.
You will find that some marketing programs actually require for the internet user (your website visitor) to actually make a purchase before paying the affiliate webmaster (you). As consumers gain more confidence in “online commerce (or e-commerce),” you can expect to see more companies to make use of “affiliate promotions” and such related marketing techniques.
Affiliate marketing benefits both the merchants and website owners alike. First, it benefits the merchant by getting their product(s) and/or service(s) out in many, many channels of advertising through internet websites and/or blogs. Secondly, affiliate marketing can benefit the webmaster, web site and/or blogger to use their web site and/or page to generate multiple streams of income. I would suggest that if you are interested in making a few extra dollars and cents, this type of marketing is an effective way for you to succeed.
Many programs encourage their affiliate marketing webmasters and/or bloggers to recruit additional webmasters and/or bloggers by offering incentive compensation packages. This approach is used when the affiliate web owner who referred another one receives a fee when an internet user clicks on one of their own links; and also, when a user clicks on one of the affiliate marketing links of the web master that they referred.
There are numerous compensation methods ( used in affiliate marketing. One method is name pay per impression (nppi). This results in the affiliate marketing web master (you) receiving a fee every time the affiliate marketing link appears on their web site. This method is not commonly used since it requires the merchant to pay even when the affiliate marketing link was not used.
A more common method is pay-per-click (ppc), in which the affiliate marketing web master receives a fee only when a web surfer clicks on the affiliate link that is placed on your website and/or blog.
Another compensation method that is increasingly being seen is pay-per-sale (pps). This is when the affiliate is compensated only when someone clicks on the link and actually makes a purchase with the merchant. This is how you cash in and sometimes it can be quite a nice income.
In closing, there is money to be made with affiliate marketing, but you must be patient. For instance, for every ten campaigns that you run, only a few might actually work. So hang in there, get some campaigns under your belt by practicing and you will so find “the niche group” that feels right and works for you and your targeted audience. Just keep with it and you will find that it will pay off.
