Hot air ballooning
Hot air ballooning is one of the more surreal ways to explore the city. Canterbury has an ideal climate for a day spent drifting lazily through the skies and the region’s flat plains give you an exceptional view while you’re up there.
You’ll start from the centre of the city and take off as the sun rises over the buildings and trees down below. The phenomenal views are just beginning, as you’ll soon be headed toward the Southern Alps and across Canterbury’s countryside.

Each balloon ride lasts around an hour before descending into the Canterbury Plains. The experience is so calm and relaxing that many people who are afraid of heights choose a balloon ride to help them overcome this.
