Affiliate marketing appeared as a result of the internet marketing. It is a business into another business. Entrepreneurial people had the idea to create companies that help the internet marketing companies in their fight for success. An affiliate marketing company helps to increase the traffic rate for the internet marketing business’s website. A big number of visitors raise the chances for a satisfying number of customers.
Affiliate marketing companies help the internet marketing companies choose a good keyword, with a high ranking in the search engines, because this is one of the best methods to attract internet users. They also have other methods, more or less accepted. At the beginnings of affiliate marketing, these companies used spamming.
Spamming was used in order to promote the websites they were working for. This has changed with the passing of time, because spamming is not a very popular online technique. Internet users are disturbed by the receiving of such e-mails. It was so much used, because it was the easiest technique; though, it is the least useful. Nowadays, internet marketing companies insert a clause in the contract, prohibiting spamming. If a company still uses it and the internet marketing finds out, the contract can be lost.
As spamming was prohibited by most of the internet marketing companies, some affiliate marketing companies have invented something else. It is called search engine spamming. They create phantom websites and provide good keywords for these, so to have a good search engine ranking. These websites are just pages containing links to all the websites they are working for. It is a very elaborate problem, as the search engines have problems into detecting these websites.
Google tried to do something in this respect. In 2005 its managers created an algorithm that successfully targeted these websites, eliminating them form Google’s index. It was a major process that also brought internet marketing to a higher level. Business runners had to create websites that distinguished from those of spammers if they wanted to avoid being placed on lower stages of search engine rankings. The serious affiliate marketing companies also gad to develop. They offered price comparison services and time consuming-time saving services, besides high search engine ranking and traffic increase.
The problems appeared because affiliate marketing companies get their payment from internet marketing companies using different methods. Some affiliate companies are paid per performance; that is, they receive a fee for every new customer, it is not enough to increase the traffic rate. It has to be qualitative traffic rate, targeted on the business’s domain, so that the visitors turn into customers.
Other affiliate marketing companies receive their money for every new visitor brought to the website they are working for. It is called pay per click. Business runners are satisfied if their website traffic is high. It doesn’t matter for them whether the number of customers also increases, although it should matter; it is the number of customers that makes the business successful.
