When considering effective ways to start out in internet marketing without laying out a lot of money, bum marketing is a good choice. Bum marketing can be achieved with virtually no cash outlay. It’s always free to write an article and, as long as you have or can use an internet connection, uploading it to the web via article directories won’t cost you anything. You just can’t get better than free, no matter how hard you try.
What we refer to as bum marketing has to do with finding a niche, researching some specific, low-competition keywords and writing one or more articles to start generating some traffic. When you’ve found a decent product or service to send the readers of your article to, you have the potential to earn some decent cash relatively quickly. It isn’t a no-effort-make-it-big-yesterday type of system. Honestly, the search for get-rich-quick methods is usually more of a time waster. However, for the beginner and old pro alike, this type of marketing is a way to earn some cash with little effort.
The best thing about this type of marketing is that it is free and is a good way to get your website or affiliate website (and your article, of course) right up near the top of the search engine ranking results. Let’s face it; if you aren’t in one of the top ten results, only a minimal amount of people are going to see what you have written about. That is just how the world wide web operates; it’s all about getting people to click through to your site or offer.
With bum marketing, if you would like to get ranked in the top search engines with your written articles it’s important that you optimize them for longtail keyword terms (i.e., “Weber gas barbecue grill” rather than “barbecue”. It’s important to use longtail keyword phrases because they have lower competition. It’s generally advised that there be less than approx. 10,000 search results for any chosen terms for you to be able to rank highly for it. If you don’t own one of the commercial keyword research programs like Market Samurai or Micro Niche Finder, you can find plenty of longtail keywords with Google’s free keyword tool (search “Google keyword tool” and you can get the exact address.
The key to producing your ‘bum’ article is your research keywords. Don’t be afraid to spend a little time to find good ones. Once you have done this you can start to write your articles. You are not trying to sell the reader more a case of warming them up and letting them know that you know the answer to their problem, whether it is how to tone up, how to be a good public speaker or anything else.
This particular method was brought to light by a well know marketer called Travis Sargo. Basically he took the idea of Article Marketing and tweaked it, added a few bells and whistles to the idea and out popped the ‘Bum Marketing Method’. It’s a great little system. For those just getting started in internet marketing, it’s a great introduction to keyword targeted writing, a skill that’s pretty essential for all other IM methods.
