How to get the best network marketing leads is a very important question and one that is classically answered in network marketing by your up-line instructing you to make a list of 100 people and call them right away. This isn’t bad advice because it gets you out there talking to people and improving your phone conversation skills. This process also gets you familiar with your products and the classic type of objections and questions that people will have when you present your network marketing business.

You may also have a great deal of success with this method, but here are a few important things to keep in mind:

1) In many companies, there will be some type of slogan that probably says something like “just recruit 3” or “just use the products and tell other people about them” and your success will follow. This isn’t wrong, but one thing that your up-line is likely not telling is that there is a very high turnover in network marketing and if your goal is to create a lasting supplemental or replacement income, you need to have fresh leads and new sign-ups almost constantly. People will drop out of your company so you have to replace them or your business will shrink.

2) Your goal in network marketing, or any business for that matter, is to build a team of people who are motivated and can build their business without your help every step of the way. This is not to say that you aren’t supposed to help them, quite the opposite actually, but you need to create an environment where your team can take advantage of what you have to offer but learn how to work on their own in the process as you serve as more of an adviser. With this in mind, what kind of value would it be for you to have people on your team that already know how to prospect effectively?

3) Your list of warm leads is probably limited. What happens once you get through your list of 100? Who will you be recruiting 5 years down the road? It is imperative to be able to build a strategy to get the best network marketing leads that allows you the ability to recruit LEADERS to your business over the long-term.

Like most businesses, your marketing goals should be designed to attract people to your business by providing them with value, either using passive online marketing tools, or active recruiting out in your community. The problem with the warm marketing approach most of the time is that you are presenting your business to people who are not necessarily interested in your opportunity. Conversely, if you own a car dealership, your advertising money is best spent on TV commercials during a sporting event, not just any advertising time you can get. Why should network marketing be any different?

Attraction marketing is based on the premise that you are providing people with value on the front end and then once you have established your value, they will ask you to join your team. This sounds too good to be true, but if you are currently in network marketing right now, think back to one of your national conferences where you heard about someone’s group where the person at the top was providing their team with leads, or something else of value. How much did you want to be in their group? This is exactly what you are trying to accomplish with attraction marketing for your network marketing business. With this in mind, the obvious questions become:

1) How do I get the tools to offer value to people?

2) How do I get the tools in front of my target audience?

With regards to the first question, there are many ways to do this, but I personally recommend finding training tools online, implementing them in your own business and then using what you learned, and creating your own personal training tools to use to market to people in network marketing. Remember leaders recruit leaders and everyone I talk to in network marketing is always looking for that next “big hitter.”

The answer to the second question is a little bit more open-ended, but here are a few things to keep in mind when you are deciding:
