Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium
The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium is a great place to take the family and has a range of short films during the school holidays suitable for all ages. The films cover a variety of astronomical subjects including Black Holes and Cosmic Collisions. All shows also include a projected night sky tour. Bookings are strongly recommended during the school holidays as the shows are popular with both kids and adults alike.
Sciencentre – Queensland Museum South Bank
The Sciencentre at the Queensland Museum South Bank is always an educational and interesting way to spend a day. The ‘Whodunit?’ exhibition running until the 8th of July, 2012 is loads of fun for children aged 8 and up. A body, a break-in, mysterious fingerprints and a missing white rhino… . Can you solve the crime? The exhibition includes a simulated crime scene and autopsy and is interactive, with hands on activities including fingerprinting and DNA profiling. There are also regular exhibits such as Action Stations -where you can get hands on with everyday science, and Body Zone – where you get to see your body as you’ve never seen it before. The Sciencentre is a great family fun day, combine it with dinner out and a stay at one of the many luxury hotels in Brisbane and the kids will be in heaven.
Wheel of Brisbane
What kid doesn’t like a Ferris wheel? Located in the Parklands at South Bank in Brisbane, the Wheel of Brisbane towers nearly 60 metres above the ground and offers spectacular 360 degree views of the city of Brisbane. The gondolas are fully enclosed and air conditioned and hold up to 6 adults and 2 children in each. After your ride, spend the day exploring the Parklands at South Bank, the kids will love the interactive water-play park ‘aquativity’ and make sure to check out ‘Streets Beach’, Australia’s only beach in the middle of a city. Take a Citycat Ride
The Brisbane River is one of Brisbane’s best known features, so what better way to spend a day than exploring it. The Brisbane Citycats set down at 24 different terminals and travel from the University of Queensland all the way to Northshore Hamilton. Pick a couple of stops along the way to explore and take the kids ferry hopping. Book a room in one of the many hotels in the Brisbane CBD and spend two days exploring the Brisbane River.
