I’m a big reader.

But let me tell you a little secret:

Reading a lot of marketing books can HURT you.

Why?

Because most people read books the wrong way.

They’ll buy a book. They’ll passively read it once. They’ll throw it on the shelf. And then they’ll move on to the next book.

This is a BIG… BIG… mistake.

Because most of the learning happens when you go over… and over… and over something until your brain really “gets it”.

Scientists have known this for years.

And so I did an experiment with myself to prove this point.

I took one of the “great” marketing books I own that was written in 1962.

And I read it 5 x in a row.

And while I was reading it, I took tons of notes.

And do you want to know what happen?

I picked up more “marketing nuggets” every time I read it.

The point?

Instead of reading 10 books once, what about reading one good book 5 times?

I’m telling you, you will not regret this decision.

In fact, I’ll bet a dollar to a donut you’ll get more useful ideas each and every time you read that one “great” marketing book, then you ever will by reading ten great marketing books once.

Oh yeah…

I also recommend you stop reading new marketing books too.

Why?

Because every marketing lesson you’ll ever need has already been tested by the “old school masters” whose books came out in the early to mid-20th century.

I’m telling you.

The best marketing books are the oldest ones.

And if you read each one at least 5 times… then you are almost guaranteed of enjoying success beyond your wildest dreams. And in marketing, success means more paying new customers.

And one last thing:

If you are serious about growing your business, then more than likely all you need is a few more good ideas like the one in this article.

So ask yourself this:

Where can you turn for more good ideas like what you just read in this article?

In my humble opinion, you have to be careful where you look for good ideas because just about everybody and their brother claims to be a so-called ‘business expert’.

Remember:

Saying is one thing.

Doing is another.

And most of these “talking heads” have never run their own successful small business.
